This is really the biggest ruin of the high defensive
wall erected by Leone IV between 848 and 852 to defend the Vatican
Basilica against the Saracens. The corridor, called the “Passetto”,
was built upon the wall and links the St. Angel Castle to the Vatican
Palace.
