This Forum was built by Julius Caesar who decided to locate it near the old Roman Forum, by moving the Cura Hostilia and the Comitium and demolishing some elegant houses already there. Caesar’s Forum was rectangular and extended from the Curia (east) to Via di San Pietro in carcere (west). It was restored by Domitian in 81 following the destruction caused by a fire in 80.
